We know what to call 52, 56, 60 and even 64 degree wedges. When we
come across a 68 degree wedge though we had to admit to being stumped.
After trying the Professional Open 690 Custom Wedges we were pretty sure we
liked them.
The look at address was the classical shape we prefer. The offset was minimal
for more accurate wedge play, which again we prefer.
We liked the beveled sole which makes these a versatile set of wedges. Pretty
much all in agreement about liking these clubs, but we still didn't know what to call the 68.
Eventually dawned on us. What does this club do? Lofts the ball up almost
perpendicular and pretty much sticks the ball where it lands. Kind of like a flop.
Eureka. A Flop Wedge.
The 68 degree wedge is a revelation. No more trying to manufacture
little flop shots like Phil, no more trying to get the ball to stop.
Just let the club do what it was designed to do. Drop this wedge into the back
of the ball and you get a little soft flop shot. Straight up and down.
Takes a bit of practice to get used to, but when you've dialed in this Flop
Wedge, it's a great stroke saver.
