Driver LoftGolf Club Loft

The angle of the club face measured from the vertical. Effectively, the angle of the club face in relation to the shaft.

Loft on a golf club controls how far and how high the club will hit. Increase the loft of your club and the trajectory of the shot will be higher for less distance. Driver lofts range from around 7 degrees to 15 degrees. Less loft on your driver and there is more possibility of imparting side-spin on your drives. Most club golfers will get best results from drivers with lofts of between 10 and 12 degrees.

Lofts on iron sets typically range from 21 degrees for a 3-iron all the way upto 60 degrees for a lob wedge.

Loft affects your yardages, so make sure to have a well balanced set. Common error is to load the set at the high-end (Driver, Fairway Woods), then leave a big gap from around the 18 to 27 degree range. A well balanced set should of course be biased towards your scoring range, but it's important to keep the overall loft increments consistent for better yardage coverage without any distance gaps.
