Golf Club Face Offset
For Irons, Hybrids and increasingly Drivers, , the
distance from the front end of the hosel to the leading edge of the club face.
The most common problem among
club golfers is the slice. A shot that travels left to right
(for right handed golfers). This is the result of the club face not squaring to the target
line on the downswing. Effectively the club face remains open, imparting clock-wise spin on
the ball and slicing the shot.
Offsetting a
club moves the Center of Gravity further behind the shaft
line, helping the club face to close during impact,
reducing or even eliminating the slice.
Offset Drivers are gaining in popularity.
Keep in mind, increased
offset reduces the playability of clubs, making
shot-shaping more difficult. Offset effectively
biases the club to hit right to left (for a right handed player).
